ABOUT OUR CHURCH
Living Word Worship Centre currently situated in the heart of the business centre of Merrylands, dates its history back to 1994, when Ghanaians from across Sydney were invited by the Pastor of the Church of Christ at Liverpool to attend a church service to celebrate Ghana's 37th independence. The idea of a church predominantly made up of Ghanaians and othe African nationalities who worship and fellowship in a distinctly African flavour had taken up the minds of different brethren at different times, but the one who took the initiative to assemble all the brethren together to found the church was Elder Frank Gyimah who then fellowshiped at the Christ Apostolic Church, Liverpool.
At another service on the 12th of march 1995, Frank Gyimah took the opportunity to circulate a survey that sought to ascertain whether the establishment of a predominantly Ghanaian church would be welcomed by the community and found the response to be positive.
Throughout the month of April 1995, brethren met to pray and held services twice in the month. In both the 1994 and 1995 services, Apostle Sam Abalo was the preacher. On the 14th of May 1995 the brethren took a decision to establish the fellowship as a church with the name "Ghana Community Church. Frank Gyimah, Chris Bonsu and Sam Abalo were appointed elders and administrators of the church in May 1995. Brethren were allowed to attend their various churches but met for services every Sunday afternoon and Friday evenings for prayers.
At the inception of the church, the first service recorded about thirty members. Towards the end of 1995, the brethren decided to do morning services on Sundays and by God's grace secured the premises of Birrong Boys High School on the 3rd of March 1996 for this purpose. The first musical instruments used belonged to a singing group led by Pastor Enoch Derkyi until the church purchased its own instruments. Storage of the musical instruments and other problems led the brethren to secure Sefton High School as a second place of worship. Mr. Mick Jagger, who was helpful and supportive was the principal at that time. In May 1997 the name of the church was changed to Living Word Centre. upon the transfer of Mr Jagger to another school in the year 2000, the new Principal told the leadership of the church to look for another premises.
In 2001, the present premises at 1/3 Gladstone Street, Merrylands was secured by the church. In 2006, under the prophetic direction of Apostle Duncan Vivian of Trinidad and Tobago, the church's name was changed to Living Word Worship Centre (LWWC).
Currently the church has secured the upper premises of unit 7 on Gladstone street to be used as offices and childrens church.
